2007 Intramural Dodgeball Rules
League Rules

1. Each game will have a time limit of 3 minutes.  After 3 minutes are completed no new players may return to the game.  The remaining player(s) from both teams will finish the game to determine the winner

2. During the regular season matches will consist of the “best of 5 games”. Three teams will be scheduled per hour meaning each team will play a minimum of 6 games and a maximum of 10.

3. Standings will be calculated by the total # of games won.

4. Playoff seeding will be determined by the 4-week regular season standings.
Playoff format will be a single elimination tournament with the # of games being
played TBD.

5. Play and time are suspended when an injury occurs.

6. There will be no more than 1 minute between games in a match.

7. Dodgeball games will be played within the boarding systems in Gates
Gymnasium.

8. Players may not wear necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or hats on the court.

 

Game Rules

1. Each team will have a maximum of six players on the floor at the beginning of
each game. A minimum of four players are required to compete. Teams must
consist of an equal # of male and female players.

2. No player substitutions will be allowed during a game. Player substitutions are
allowed between games only. A team may consist of any number of players, but
only 6 (three female, three male) can participate in any game.

3. Once called out, a player may enter the Player Return area and wait to re-enter the
game. A player may re-enter a game when someone on his/her team catches a
ball thrown by the opposing team before it strikes the ground. Players will reenter
the game based on First Out, First In. Players returning in any game must
have been on the floor at the start of that specific game.

4. Golden Hoop Rule: If a player throws a Dodgeball through the basketball hoop on
the opposing side of the court, all members in his/her team’s Player Return Area
may re-enter the game.

5. At the beginning of each game, players from both teams will line up on the center
line of the court.

6. Three balls (3 large) will be placed on the end line of each team . When the game begins, each team will rush to their respective end line to retrieve the balls.

7. Game play is continuous with no time-outs for either team. If a player holds the
ball for longer than 10 seconds, he/she is required to roll it to the opposing team.

8. Players may not hold/hide balls in their shirts.

9. No player may leave the court to avoid being struck by a ball. If a ball lands
outside of the boarding system surrounding the court, it will be called dead and
will remain out of play for that game.

10. A player will be called out in the following situations:
a. They step outside of the boarding system to avoid being hit.
b. They are struck by a ball before the ball strikes the ground. (Exception:
Getting hit above the shoulders.)
c. Their throw is blocked by a player on the opposing team and caught by a
member of the opposing team prior to striking the ground.
d. Their throw hits a player on the opposing team but is caught by an
opposing team member before striking the ground.
e. They are struck by a ball after it has hit another player but before striking
the ground. (In this situation both players hit by the ball are out.)
f. They kick the ball at opposing players.
g. They throw a ball that strikes a player above the shoulders (a head shot is
a head shot, i.e. it makes no difference if the player getting hit has ducked,
jumped etc. to avoid the ball, if they are hit in the face the thrower is out).
h. They cross the center court line.
i. They violate the jewelry or hat rule.
j. They display poor sportsmanship, continual questioning of the official’s
judgment, or foul language.
k. The official believes the player shows signs of impairment that may
endanger themselves or the other players.

11. The game ends when one team no longer has players on the court.
