Facts

Zeta Beta Tau is unique individual development is an important part of the college experience, and a fraternity is the perfect place to foster that development. Before joining a fraternity, ask what kind of development program they offer, their stance on hazing, and how the development program will support you through you college experience, not just the 6 weeks after joining.

Non-Pledging: Zeta Beta Tau nationally ended pledging in 1989 when they realized that pledging inevitably leads to hazing. The thought was that hazing and humiliation of new members places them in a different class than real brothers. This creation of a lower, second-class brother defeats its own purpose by breeding contempt and dividing rather than uniting.

Non-Hazing: Ask any Brother of our chapter why he joined ZBT, and he'll probably give you two answers. The first will be that he was so enamored by how friendly all the brothers were and how welcome they made him feel; the second reason is that ZBT did not haze or humiliate him in any way.

So what does that mean to you as a new member of ZBT? As soon as you accept your bid to join, you become a Brother of Zeta Beta Tau. You do not have to pass a test, engage in any harmful rituals, or demean yourself in any way.

And when we say you are a full Brother, we mean it. You can vote at the first Brotherhood meeting after you join, you can hold an executive office position, and most importantly, you are respected as an equal among all of the Brothers.
